Mustang Message

Wessendorff Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful and restful Fall Break! October is full of celebrations, spirit engagement opportunities, and events that bring our Mustang community together.

🍂 There are many exciting activities planned throughout the month, including spirit days, attendance celebrations, Hispanic Heritage Month activities, Red Ribbon Week, and Bullying Prevention Month initiatives. Be sure to review our October Calendar with your Mustang so they don't miss out on the fun and opportunities to show their school spirit!

📚 Attendance Matters
We are proud to share that our campus attendance continues to hold steady at 94% but our daily goal is 96%!. When students are present, they are better able to engage in instruction, build relationships, and experience all that Wessendorff has to offer.

📊 Progress Reports Available This Week
Progress report grades for the 2nd Six Weeks will be available this week. We encourage families to review grades through Skyward Parent Access and communicate with teachers if you have any questions or concerns. Together, we can help our Mustangs stay on track for success.

🎤 Student Leadership Opportunities
Are you interested in being the voice of Wessendorff?

Students interested in participating in our morning announcements should stop by and see Mrs. Zimmerman, our school counselor, for more information.

Additionally, Mrs. McClain is seeking 10 student leaders to serve on the Principal's Advisory Committee. This committee provides students with an opportunity to:
  • Share ideas and feedback
  • Promote school spirit
  • Lead student initiatives
  • Serve as a voice for their peers
Students interested in serving on the committee must submit a letter to Mrs. McClain that includes:
✅ Full Name
✅ Why they are interested in serving on the committee
✅ One thing they believe Wessendorff should make a priority this year

Letters can be submitted to the front office. We are excited to empower student leaders and hear the voices of our Mustangs!

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make Wessendorff a place where excellence is the standard and every student matters because we're ALL IN!

Bullying Prevention Month

October is Bullying Prevention Month.  Last week, we wore blue on Monday to recognize the World Day of Bullying Prevention.  The morning announcements focused on recognizing different types of bullying and understanding the weight of our choices.

This week, morning announcements will focus on all of us becoming "upstanders" and not allowing bullying to happen on our campus.

An upstander is a person who speaks up, takes action, or intervenes on behalf of an individual or cause when they witness unjust behavior, bullying, harassment, or harm, instead of remaining a passive bystander

Keep an eye out for information, activities, and challenges in the Counselor Corner canvas course.

Grades

The end of the 2nd Six Weeks Progress Report period is October 13th.  Grades will post on October 15th.

Thank you from the Custodial Staff

On October 2, we celebrated Custodial Appreciation Day and recognized the dedicated members of our custodial team who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Wessendorff Middle School clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

As part of the celebration, several of our students created heartfelt cards and notes expressing their gratitude. The kind words meant so much to our custodial staff that they proudly displayed them on their door. Deeply touched by this gesture, the team wanted to thank our students in return. One of our custodians wrote the following message and asked that it be shared in this week's newsletter.

Thank you to all the students that sent all the good thoughts to us.  We appreciate y'all for seeing all we do for Wessendorff.!

FOOD DRIVE

Please send contributions to school with your student.

🔒 Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility 🔒

At Wessendorff Middle School, the safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. As part of our campus safety protocols, students are not permitted to open any exterior or classroom door for any reason. This expectation has been reviewed with all students and will continue to be reinforced throughout the school year.

We ask our families to partner with us by discussing this important safety expectation at home. While students may be trying to help a friend or classmate, opening a secured door compromises the safety measures in place to protect everyone on our campus.

Please be aware that students who open any exterior or classroom door without authorization are subject to disciplinary action.

Together, by following established safety procedures and reinforcing expectations at home and at school, we can ensure a safe learning environment for all. Thank you for your partnership and commitment to keeping our Mustang community safe.

Tardy Policy

At Wessendorff Middle School, being on time is a high expectation and an important part of student success. Students have 4 minutes to transition between classes throughout the school day, and they are expected to use that time responsibly to arrive at their next class on time and ready to learn.

Frequent tardies can disrupt learning, impact instructional time, and create unnecessary interruptions for both students and teachers. We ask that you reinforce the importance of punctuality with your student and encourage them to move directly to their next class during each transition.

To ensure the safety and supervision of all students, please be reminded that our school doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Students who are dropped off before 8:30 a.m. are unsupervised, as staff members are not yet on duty. Leaving students unattended prior to staff arrival creates a significant safety concern.

We ask that all families plan ahead and schedule morning drop-off for 8:30 a.m. or later. Your partnership in following these procedures helps us provide a safe and secure environment for every Mustang.
